Suspect caught with loot in wheelie-bin

Police: The men acted suspiciously and the members stopped to search them.

A man caught red-handed pushing a wheelie-bin filled with stolen goods is to appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court at the end of March.

“At approximately 11.30pm on Tuesday, 23 February, sector members were doing routine patrols in the area when they noticed two men pushing a wheelie-bin in Ralerata Street. The men acted suspiciously and the members stopped to search them.

“The one man ran away the minute the police vehicle stopped next to them. When the members searched the dustbin, they found items in the dustbin that the remaining man could not account for.

Some of the items were food and sweets.

“The man was arrested for possession of presumed stolen property,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

The suspect already appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 25 February. The case has been postponed to Wednesday, 30 March.
