Did you register to vote?

If you missed the first registration weekend, another one is coming up in April.

DA councillors of Ward 6 and 7 took to their voting stations this past weekend to welcome and assist members of the public to register to vote.

Over the same weekend as Randfontein’s biggest event of the year, the Randfontein Show, councillors took to their voting registration venues to show their presence in their wards.

“Yep, the Show was on hold for me this weekend,” joked Craig Harrison, councillor for Ward 7.

Ward 7 registration and voting venues were at Hoërskool Riebeeckrand (Rierand) and at Westcol Randfontein Campus.

We had a full team of over 10 people at Westcol and Hoërskool Riebeeckrand who made our tables outside the stations to meet and greet the public as well as assist them,” Harrison said.

He added that he came across proud Samantha-Lee Morris who registered to vote for the first time and she is ready to make her cross on the paper so that her needs can be represented in local government.

In a separate registration drive, aspiring DA candidate, Eddie Krog, took to ward 6 of Randfontein.

They were stationed at the Greenhills Stadium tennis courts to welcome and greet their residents. The other voter registration venue for ward 6 was at Laerskool Randfontein (Ram) where Krog came across twin first-time registrations.

If any resident missed the voter registration weekend as a result of the Randfontein Show, another registration weekend will be held on 9 and 10 April.

When going to register, voters are required to take with their green bar-coded ID book, smart ID or valid temporary ID certificate.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has made it clear that no other forms of ID will be accepted other than the previously stated documents.
