How to change your negative thinking pattern

Don’t play the victim. You create your life. Take responsibility for it.

When we start having negative thoughts, it can become an unstoppable circle, hard to escape from.

Shifting your focus to positive thoughts is easier said then done. But with these seven points, it becomes easier to do if you practise it daily.

• Meditate or do yoga.

This brings you back to the most important moment – now. Instead of jumping to what could happen next, you stay focused and live in the moment.

It is also very relaxing and eases the mind.

• Smile!

Even if you have to force a smile. It helps change your mood and curb stress.

It can also make you feel lighter because it takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown.

• Surround yourself with positive people.

Stay away from people that gossip and criticise. Rather be with people that see the positive in everything and people that are grateful.

• Change the tone of your thoughts from negative to positive.

For example, instead of thinking, “We are going to have a hard time adjusting to one less salary, think, “We will face some challenges, but we will come up with solutions and make it through.”

• Don’t play the victim.

You create your life. Take responsibility for it.

You are never stuck in a situation for to long. There is always a way out. You will always have the choice to make change happen, if need be.

• Help someone.

Take the focus away from you and do something nice for another person. It will make you realise that other people deal with much more than you do.

• Remember that you are not perfect, forgive yourself and move on.

It’s easy to dwell on your mistakes. Look ahead and try not to make the same mistakes again.
