Toekies girl takes Idols by storm

Rashida: It's not where you come from but where you are going.

Rashida Abrahams, 27, proudly from Toekomsrus is taking on the Idols talent competition and has so far made it through to round two of the auditions.

Rashida is employed at the Westview Clinic branch in Toekomsrus where she works with substance abuse amongst school children.

Rashida’s first audition was on Sunday, 28 February held at Carnival City. There she had one-on-one auditions and performed three songs – two of those songs from her favourite singer, Adele.

According to Rashida, there was more or less 3 000 contestants at the first audition and approximately 1 000 people that went through to the second round.

On Monday, 29 February, the second audition took place where some of these contestants will then go through to the third round. In this round the lucky contestants will receive their golden ticket. Rashida is awaiting the call to say that she has gone through to the third round and is confident that she will succeed.

At the second audition Rashida sang in front of a panel of judges and she says it was tremendously stressful.

I have never pursued singing. Although I did sing at the Toekomsrus Babtist Church before I never thought I had the talent.

“It was only at a National Youth Camp that everybody encouraged me to take part in this years Idols competition,” she said.

Rashida is not just a talented singer, she also has a huge passion for her work and with her participation in Idols, she wants to set the example to other children in Toekomsrus to pursue their talents and passion.

“It’s not where you come from but where you are going. No matter how bad your past has been, you can always turn it around.”
