A special Valentine’s for Golden Jewels

'The world does not owe you anything, your choices and determination forms your life.'

Two women, originally from Toekomsrus, decided to not just take, but give back to the community by treating the Golden Jewels old age group to an afternoon of treats last Thursday.

Tammy Flowers, 27, and Tracey Foster, 30, are owners of Trendy Cuts and the Cappuccino Cafe in Union Street, Randgate.

They have planned a program for charity events for right through the year, where they will be attending and hosting charity events for people in the community. They chose the Golden Jewels old age group, because these women, mostly widowers are from Toekomsrus – a place close to their hearts.

The women, all dressed up in red and white were treated to delicious eats and drinks. More or less 25 women attended and they thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, chatting away to each other.

Kathy Solomons, 56, founder of the Golden Jewels said, “Today is ‘me time’. A lot of our women are still looking after their grandchildren but today is a special day, where we still talk about love, dates, our husbands and relax.

“These two beautiful women do not know how much this day means to us and God.”

Tammy and Tracey are also trying to motivate the youth by showing them that you can make something of yourself, no matter where you come from.

They urge the youth to not fall for peer pressure and drugs. Tammy’s motto is ‘The world does not owe you anything, your choices and determination forms your life’.

Tammy and Tracey also plan to learn from Kathy and her group in order to give good advice to the youth and their friends about things these women have been through a long time ago.
