There’s a new political party in town

RPP: We are government in waiting.

Randfontein has a new political party in town and they are made up of what they call bonified residents of Randfontin who have had enough.

The Randfontein People’s Party (RPP) is a newly formed political party who say they are made up of the people, for the people.

The RPP put an announcement in the 29 January edition of the Herald to state they have intentions to form a political party as per procedure. On Friday, 12 February the RPP will be issued with a certificate to officiate their existence.

The official launch of the party will take place on Saturday, 27 February. The venue has yet to be announced as the party would like to make the event in a central position so that all residents across Randfontein and Westonaria can attend. Their first community meeting was held on Monday, 8 February in Mohlakeng.

“The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the party to the residents of Mohlakeng and similar meetings are being planned to cover the rest of the areas comprising the greater Randfontein,” said Chicco Motjuwadi, deputy chief convener of the RPP.

The party’s motto is, “Nothing about us, without us. New voice, new vision.”

“How the party came about is members of the community decided they have had enough of the maladministration of the Randfontein Local Municipality. We have had enough about not being consulted. We need a government rooted in the community. We have also had enough of corruption,” Ally Mosina, chief convener said.

Motjuwadi added, “Our core focus is social justice.”

According to Mosina, the party already has 4 000 members since inception. Mosina is confident that they will have representatives in council after the upcoming local elections so much so that Mosina said, “We are government in waiting.”
