Teenage cyclist run over and killed

ER24: The child was found in the veld approximately 15 metres away from his bicycle.

A teenage cyclist was killed after being struck by a bakkie near the R559 outside Carletonville on Tuesday.

It is believed the boy is 14 years of age.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the boy who was riding a bicycle was knocked over by a bakkie. The bicycle was in the middle of the road.

The child was found in the veld approximately 15 metres away from his bicycle. Upon assessment by paramedics it was found that the child sustained multiple severe injuries.

“Sadly there was nothing that could be done for him. He was declared dead.The driver of the bakkie was uninjured. The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations,” said Chitra Bodasing, ER24 spokesperson.
