How to bath your parrot
Showers are a great way for both of you to spend quality time together.
Should your parrot shower? Yes, they get dirty, they enjoy it and they also need to keep clean to promote good health.
Most of our pet parrots are still extremely close to the wild. A bathing program can satisfy many of their natural needs and desires. Healthy adult parrots should have a shower every few days, rather than a bath.
Showers are not only a change for your parrot to get clean, but it is a great change for the both of you to have fun and spend quality time together.
Adult parrots need only water to help clean the feathers. The oil and preening will take care of removing the dirt. Soap and shampoo is not a wise choice for adult parrots because it removes natural oils that are important for parrot hygiene.
Feathers, for the most part, clean themselves, due to powder down. Powder down develops on parrots and falls off, carrying dirt away.The shower rinses off dust and surface dirt and moisturises the feathers.
Normally, adult birds will not need to be dried. If they are healthy, the feathers will not absorb as much water as they do when they are babies. Your parrot will flap it’s wings and will be dry in the blink of an eye. The exceptions will be cold days and crazy parrots that soak every part of their body.
