Would-be burglar caught on house roof

Mapogo: Two reaction officers found the suspect hiding behind a wall on the roof.

Mapogo have once again made the streets of Randfontein just a little bit safer by apprehending a suspect.

According to Johan Cronje from Mapogo, Dirk Calitz, a reaction officer apprehended the suspect on Saturday. Cronje added Calitz found the suspect on the roof of one of their clients’ properties trying to break into the property.

Calitz said a client alerted them from Hillside about a strange breaking glass noise and that dogs were barking non-stop. Pottie Potgieter, a reaction officer went to investigate and found that eight windows were broken.

Potgieter proceeded to call Calitz and the two entered the business premises and heard something on the roof.

We immediately went outside to get on the roof and found the suspect hiding behind a wall. His hands were cut the way he broke the windows because he couldn’t find a way into the building. We later handed him over to the police,” Calitz said.

In a separate incident on the same night both Calitz and Potgieter apprehended another suspect in Homelake after getting a panic alert from a resident. The two went out to the scene and apprehended one suspect that who was handed over to the police.
