Pedestrian reports being assaulted, robbed at gunpoint

Police: They blocked his way and one of the suspects allegedly pointed a gun at him.

A 29-year-old man was robbed and assaulted at gunpoint in Mohlakeng recently.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the incident took place at around 3.45am on Thursday before last.

It is alleged the victim was walking along Segaetso Street when he was confronted by two unknown men.

They blocked his way and one of the suspects allegedly pointed a gun at him,” Ernst said.

The suspects demanded his cellphone and during the incident, they became aggressive and began assaulting the victim. They then searched him and took his cellphone and wallet containing money. Fortunately for the victim, no shots were fired and the victim did not sustain any serious injuries.

The suspects then fled on foot after the incident. Warrant officer Karen Nel, the investigating officer urges any person who might have any information regarding the robbery to contact her on 011 278 8100.
