West Rand matrics: 100 percent pass rate for 12 schools

'West Rand achieved the second best pass rate in the whole of South Africa.'

Mpho Nawa, West Rand District Mayor recently addressed the Randfontein community and congratulated the district’s matric pupils of 2015 for achieving the second best pass rate in the whole of South Africa.

“The New Year of 2016 has kicked off to a promising start. I am happy to have this opportunity to wish everyone in the West Rand a happy, healthy and prosperous year ahead. The first exciting news from this district was the announcement of the matric results. The West Rand achieved the second best pass rate in the whole of South Africa.

12 schools in the West Rand achieved a 100 percent pass rate. We are very proud of some of the top learners in the country and wish them a fulfilling and rewarding future. Those that did not succeed will be supported to try again.”

On a more serious note, Mayor Nawa added, “The racist views of a few untransformed members of society have spread negativity around racism and this has been magnified by social media. Let us not allow the views of one or two people to shift the focus of building a non-racial, non-sexist, united democracy in South Africa. To quote President Zuma: “We have travelled a long way to finding each other as South Africans.”

Mayor Nawa urged the community to build a country where racism plays no part. He said we should embrace values of respect for one another and recognise the dignity of all humans. He also wishes all community members a wonderful 2016.
