Dagga found in abandoned house

Police: The youth gather at this abandoned house in order to smoke dagga and use other drugs.

An intelligence driven operation in Toekomsrus led Randfontein Police to a stash of dagga with a street value of R2 500 on Tuesday 12 January.

“Officers arrived at the address in Ruby Street after they received information that drugs are being sold there. They were surprised to find the house unoccupied but they nonetheless decided to search the premises,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

They then discovered a large quantity of dagga which was wrapped in newspaper. Although no arrests were made the drugs was removed from the streets.

The officers enquired in the area and it was determined the youth in Toekomsrus gather at this abandoned house in order to smoke dagga and use other drugs.

Randfontein Police management wishes to congratulate warrant officers Rothman and Wasserman from Krugersdorp and Sergeant Thiart from Randfontein for going the extra mile in following up information.

Acting station commander, Colonel Tshidi Filita expressed her gratitude towards the community in Toekomsrus for their efforts in eradicating drugs in the community.

The Randfontein Police will continue to follow up any information received ” promised Col Filita.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) calls on the help of the community members to assist them with information. Anyone with information can contact the Crime Stop number – 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line – 32211 to report crime anonymously.
