Teen robbed of laptop at gunpoint

This robbery is one of four that took place in Mohlakeng over four days.

A teenager was robbed of his laptop at gunpoint in front of his home.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson says, “On the evening of Thursday 7 January, an 18-year-old man was the victim of another armed robbery in Mohalkeng. It occurred in Dikgale Street.”

It was alleged the victim and his friend were standing at the gate of his home when they were approached by an unknown male suspect. The man allegedly asked for matches when the victim replied that he and his friend do not have any matches.

“The suspect then demanded the laptop which the victim had in his possession. It is further alleged when the victim refused to hand over the laptop, the suspect produced a firearm and fired a shot at the victim’s feet.

The victim feared for his life and handed over the laptop. The suspect then fled the scene,” Ernst said.

The police are investigating the possibility that the robbery in Lebusa and this one might have been committed by the same suspect. The Lebusa robbery involved one suspect confronting a man sitting in his car. The man was robbed at gunpoint and and forced into his boot.

“Any person who has knowledge of this incident and might be able to shed light on the identity of the suspect is requested to contact the investigating officer, Karen Nel.”

Warrant Officer Nel can be contacted on 011 278 8100.

This robbery is one of four robberies executed over four days in Mohlakeng. Two of the four robberies were executed with a firearm and one with a knife.
