New old age home in town

The Connie Mulder Centre finds a way to become sustainable.

The Connie Mulder Centre launched their old age home in hopes of keeping the centre open for years to come.

The launch took place on Saturday. Members of the centre and handymen converted one of their unused buildings to make way for this new venture they are embarking on.

Bea Botha, founder of the old age home said the move to open up an old age home on the Connie Mulder premises was first for the patients at the centre who were getting to the retiring age.

She then later thought that it would be more beneficial to open the home to the public. The home, she said, will serve as a means to keep the centre afloat should government grants cease or the financial strain becomes too strenuous for the centre.

One of the steps taken to build the home was to sell the Connie Mulder Centre bus which was said by Botha to have been a white elephant for the centre.

Willie Breytenbach was also personally thanked by Botha for all the effort he put into the project and for all the money he spent out of pocket to make the home a reality.

The home also received two sponsors; one from EPR security who did their alarm free of charge and Metal Printing who donated the centre’s name board. The creation of the home is not just to further the centre but will also create a substantial amount of jobs. Botha said that a stack of CVs were sent in when they began looking for staff.

The home itself has a highly modernised look and is fully equipped for able and non-able bodied persons. The showers are a prime example of that.

The home also has a caregiver that will live on the premises and will be on call 24 hours a day.

The move comes as a spark of genius following the pending closing of a local mental institution as well as all other Life care centres in Gauteng.
