Rapist in his early 20s caught thanks to blood tests.

Thanks to DNA samples, a 24-year-old man has been arrested at his home for an alleged rape he committed in 2013.

Detective Constable Mapoloba of the Bekkersdal Police made the arrest.

It is alleged the suspect was arrested after he allegedly raped a woman next to the Mandela sports ground on 24 September 2013. A case was provincially withdrawn pending the results and on 30 November 2015 the results were obtained.

“The matter was referred to the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for a decision and on 4 December 2015 a warrant for his arrest was issued. The suspect appeared before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Thursday last week,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.
