Two killed, one injured in horror crash

ER24: Vehicle crashed into a bridge.

Two people were killed when their vehicle crashed into a bridge near Carletonville along the R501 on Saturday afternoon.

According to Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson, shortly after 2.30pm paramedics arrived on the scene where they found pieces of what looked like a vehicle scattered over several meters.

“Upon further assessment they found that a man and a woman sustained fatal injuries. Another man was found near one of the car pieces. He sustained only moderate injuries.

“Paramedics on scene stated he is extremely lucky to have escaped such an incident with only moderate injuries. He was later transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

Bystanders on the scene explained to paramedics that the vehicle apparently swerved for a vehicle in front of it and lost control when it veered onto the gravel on the side of the road. The vehicle was ripped to pieces upon impact with the bridge pillar.

“Paramedics urge commuters to take special care when driving on the road during the festive period. Small roads and sub arterial routes may also pose a huge risk when you are traveling and you should always be vigilant. Obey the rules of the road and think for those around you.

“The exact cause of the incident is not yet known. Local authorities attended the incident.”
