A message of hope

West Rand District Mayor, Mpho Nawa reflects on some of the events of 2015.

West Rand District Mayor, Mpho Nawa, compiled a message of hope for Christmas and the new year for the residents of Randfontein.

“As the year 2015 comes to an end, I should like to reflect on some of the events of the year. We had hoped that this year would have brought us closer to the ideal of becoming a West Rand Metro.

“However that has not yet been approved – delayed, not denied. The first step that has been taken is the merger of Randfontein and Westonaria and work is progressing to achieve that in 2016.

“Meanwhile a great stride has been made in the implementation of improved service delivery across the West Rand through the Ntirhisano project – the Premier of Gauteng as taken especial interest in the improvement of West Rand municipalities.

Good governance of municipalities has been a priority. This is indeed a great place in which to live, learn and invest. Our performance in schools and sport is outstanding.

“We hope to retain the position of top District in South Africa in this year’s Matric results. Social cohesion has been greatly enhanced by a wonderful Go West Festival in September. Small businesses have prospered. Big business is growing.

“In November we hosted a successful Mayoral Charity Golf Day and raised money for four selected charities of the West Rand. Through these and other beneficiaries of Mayoral programmes during the year, we continue to serve the most vulnerable groups in society.

My wish is that the year ahead will continue to see more and more aspects of the better life that we have promised the people. May you be blessed with good health, happiness and wisdom in 2016.

“May the spiritual gifts of Christmas bring joy to you and your family and may you all have a safe and peaceful holiday season.”
