Burglars flee with big storeroom loot

Police: Complainant says the storeroom was well-secured.

Two burglars managed to break into a storeroom at a supermarket despite it being well-secured, Westonaria Police said.

The incident occurred between 7pm on Saturday, 5 December and 7am on Sunday, 6 December according to Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, spokesperson of Westonaria Police.

“The complainant alleged that when he closed the Leseding supermarket at 7pm on Saturday he left the storeroom in good order. The roller and burglar doors all were locked.

The next day, he returned to the storeroom only to find the burglar and roller doors wide open and the padlock broken. Upon entering, he found his stock all over the floor and other items stolen.

“At about 8.30am that Sunday morning he spotted the suspects with the bags and informed the police. Constable Edwin Mueda and Constable Jeffrey Magoro was quick to respond.

“As soon as the suspects saw the policemen, they then ran away. The officers chased the suspects and managed to arrest them at around 9am.

“The police officers recovered six fully loaded bags filled with clothing, shoes, CDs and DVDs. The person who informed the police identified the stolen property as his own,”said Ndlovu.

The two suspects, aged 31 and 40 will be charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property.
