Major oil theft bust

Two suspected oil thieves arrested.

Two suspects aged 43 and 53 have been arrested by Westonaria Police for being in possession of suspected stolen properties on Tuesday.

“It is alleged the police officers, Constable Boitumelo Motswadi and Constable Simphiwe Dube got a tip-off that there were two men travelling in a grey Nissan van along Davies Street carrying stolen oil from mines.

“The police officers then proceeded to Davies Street where they spotted the Nissan van that fitted the description given to them by an anonymous caller.

The police stopped the van and searched it. While searching, they found 16 five litres of oil at the back of the van. When asked where they got the oil, the suspects could not give an explanation or show a proof of purchase.

The police officers then took the suspects to their residence where they further searched their property. They found suspected stolen gas tubes, a cutting torch and a full box of nails,” said Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, spokesperson for the Westonaria Police.

The suspects were then arrested and will appear before the court on Friday, 11 December.
