Residents given a new platform to complain

Complaints given to the Public Protector are anonymous and free.

Tired of complaining about municipal issues and getting no joy?

Contact the Public Protector to step in. The Public Protector not only investigates Nkandla fire pools but is also there to assist the community with any governmental related complaints.

The Public Protector is a high level independent constitutional office appointed by the president on the recommendation of parliament in terms of the constitutions. The public protector can investigate conduct in government, corporations or companies where the state is involved such as Eskom and Telkom.

They do not investigate court decisions by judges and magistrates, conduct outside state affairs. Public Protector staff can, however, can help by advising residents where or to whom they can complain to.

The Public Protector acts as a referee who looks at all sides of the problem and if they found the complaint is justified, they may report the matter to parliament.

Residents are encouraged to sort the issue out themselves and should they not be able to, they should then contact the Public Protector.

Complaints are anonymous and are free and should the complainant not be able to go to the Public Protector office or call them, the community can invite the outreach team to come to them or to conduct an information session in the area.
