Video: Trudy’s Nest closes for festive season

Toekomsrus' elderly will be taking a break for the festive season.

Trudy’s Nest elderly were spoiled for one last time this year at their annual end of year party.

Trudy’s Nest is a haven for the elderly and less fortunate in Toekomsrus. Through the charity organisation, the elderly get food parcels, blankets and other necessities.

The end of year party took place at the Toekomsrus community centre on Tuesday, 1 December. All members received a food parcel and mug from the Randfontein Local Municipality‘s social development department which is headed by Patricia Matuwane.

Of the first to receive their food parcels were Sarah Wankra, 97, and Maria Andrews, 94. They are the eldest members of Trudy’s Nest. The day was utterly enjoyed by the elderly members and was ended-off in song.

Suzie de Jaer, a blind member seized her guitar and played gospel classics for the members which erupted into a sing-along. Susan Swartz accompanied Suzie on the tamborine.

The organisation will open again in mid-January just after the schools re-open,” Trudy Haywood, founder of Trudy’s Nest said.
