Police make 11 drug-related arrests

The community is assured that this will be the first of many similar activities to curb this crime.

Police members of Randfontein, the K9 Unit as well as reservists in the Randfontein Policing area managed to make 11 drug-related arrests recently.

“Drugs are a reality in the Randfontein Policing area and the successes are an indication of the extent of drugs available in the area. The members had a clamp down operation, while some of the arrests were made during routine stop and search activities.

Two of the suspects were arrested in Madala hostel in Mohlakeng. The suspects were a male and female in their 20’s and they got two charges against them for possession of drugs,” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.

Four arrests were made while the members were patrolling in the Homelake and Randfontein CBD area. The suspects arrested were all male and their ages vary from 21 to 38. They were walking along the road when they were apprehended.

Intelligence driven operations in Toekomsrus resulted in the arrest of two females and three males aged between 28 and 47.

The suspects appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court last Monday. The cases have been remanded.

The Randfontein Police Management congratulated the members on their efforts in the fight against drug abuse. The community is assured that this will be the first of many similar activities to curb this crime.
