The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, police say.

14 pupils were injured when a driver lost control of the bakkie on Friday, 13 November.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police the incident took place on the N14 in Brandvlei.

“The driver of their school transport lost control of the vehicle. It is alleged the driver was transporting the scholars in a white Bantam Light Delivery Vehicle when the bonnet of the vehicle suddenly opened and resulted in the driver losing control of the vehicle,” she said.

Ernst added the bakkie overturned and the pupils in the back of the vehicle were all injured.

They [pupils] were rushed to a local hospital by ambulance. A case of reckless and negligent driving is under investigation to determine liability of the incident,” said Ernst.
