Youngster sentenced to eight years in prison

The suspect was charged with robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and malicious injury to property.

A 20-year-old man who was found guilty of assaulting a woman as well as stabbing and robbing a man in two separate incidents has been jailed for eight years.

Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police explained, in the first incident, “Zola Ndika grabbed the woman, 23, and assisted another man in assaulting her.”

Ernst said Ndika tore the woman’s clothes in the process.

In the second incident, Ndika robbed a 32-year-old man in Aureus.

Ndika was armed with a knife and stabbed the complainant. He was arrested when members of the public assisted the complainant,” Ernst said.

Ndika appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on charges of robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and malicious injury to property.

Adele Britz was prosecuting on behalf of the state, while Ms Kau was the presiding magistrate. Ndika was found guilty and sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment on Friday 13 November.

“The investigating officer, Sergeant Nomsa Thebe is applauded for the way in which she investigated the matter. Her dedication and perseverance are noted. The Randfontein Police management is proud to have investigators of this calibre in the force,” Ernst said.
