Sport store robbed while customers shop

The suspects stole approximately 100 cellphones, clothes and shoes.

Totalsports in Village Square Mall was robbed by between five and six armed suspects while customers were going about their shopping.

“A 24-year-old employee at Totalsports, Village Mall, alleges that five or six unknown suspects entered the shop and pointed firearms at the employees,” Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed.

The suspects took approximately 100 cellphones, some clothing and shoes. They then fled the scene on foot. No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained.

The suspects are believed to be travelling in two vehicles and they spoke English,” Ernst added.

Francois du Buisson from Village Square Centre Management said, “At around 11am, Fidelity Security notified Village Square Centre Management of an armed robbery at Totalsports.

“Fortunately nobody was injured. The case is now being handled by the police for investigation. Village Square Centre Management thanks Fidelity Security, EPR and the police for their quick response and professionalism. We strive to create a safe shopping environment for all our shoppers.”

The Randfontein detectives are investigating the case and are following all possible leads. Information regarding the robbery can be reported to Captain Martin Smith at the Randfontein Detectives Unit.
