‘It looked like an alpha male’

Blue monkeys loose in R'fontein.

Three women were shocked when they saw a blue monkey run across their lawn in the backyard.

The bizarre incident took place in Raven Road, Greenhills on Wednesday.

We were in the house and suddenly we see this monkey running across the grass to the apricot tree,” Kim Ferreria said.

She added that the monkey looked like an alpha male.

Kim explained that the monkey looked like it came from next door but when she asked the neighbour if it was his pet, he told her he didn’t have any pets.

They mysterious blue monkey proceeded to eat apricots off the tree and made his way for the front yard. The monkey then proceeded to climb one of the trees in the front yard. Kim explains that the monkey tried to grab a bird’s nest in the tree.

Once the monkey had it’s fill on playtime at the home he then ran across the road into another resident’s house.

He just ran across the street to one of our neighbours. He was dodging cars trying to cross,” Kim said.

The Herald proceeded to investigate the last seen location of the monkey but to no avail. A scan of the Riebeeck Lake was also done but no sign of a blue monkey.

Kim managed to take photos of the monkey but none were clear enough to actually see it.

DA ward councillor, Evert du Plessis, councillor of the area told the Herald a while back that a resident called him about monkeys crossing the road coming from the direction of the Riebeeck Lake. The call also came from a Raven Road resident.
