One dead, multiple injured in shack fire
Randfontein Executive Mayor steps in to help victims.
One person died and multiple people were left injured in a fire that broke out in the masters informal settlement in Elandsvlei recently.
The Herald has been informed the incident occurred on Saturday before last. One member of the settlement succumbed to his injuries in hospital three days after the incident.
When the Randfontein Executive Mayor, Mzi Khumalo heard about the misfortune he then immediately organised with the business fraternity of Randfontein to assist the victims.
Through this decision, the residents of masters received new shacks later the same day. Khumalo also saw to it that food parcels, blankets and other necessities were provided to the victims.
It is through painful periods like this that you realise the importance of love and care as citizens. It’s through these difficult periods that as Africans we are called upon to reflect our acts of leadership.
“It is times like these where out loyalty towards people we lead is genuinely tested. We are therefore here to address your plight,” Khumalo said.
