Star athletes nominated for CGA awards

Athletes: 'We really are looking forward to the awards ceremony.'

A number of local athletes once again were nominated for the annual Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Awards to be held at Montecasino on Saturday 28 November.

Keneiloe Sesing and Kabelo Melamu from Randmark Run, Walk, Cycle Club have been nominated in their respective categories – Keneiloe in the Senior Women category while Kabelo in the Best Promising Junior Athlete category.

Both athletes, who both hail from Mohlakeng, had an opportunity earlier this year to represent the country at the International Cross Country Championships in China.

The duo also have been doing well in the CGA Cross Country leagues and many road running events including the Soweto Marathon and the Tembisa Tom Tom 10km race.

Keneiloe, in her debut marathon crossed the finish line in a time of two hours, 43 minutes and 38 seconds at the Cape Town Marathon in September. As the second South African she placed sixth overall.

Cornelia Joubert and Sibusiso Nzima who run for the star-studded Nedbank Team also have been nominated for the CGA Awards. Cornelia has been nominated in the Senior Women category and Sibusiso in the Senior Male Athlete of the Year Category.

We really are looking forward to the awards ceremony and we hope for the best. Being nominated is a clear indication of hard work,” said Motlatsi Sesing, trainer coach for both Keneiloe and Kabelo.
