Security staff overpowered and robbed

Police: One of the men was armed.

It is almost festive season and criminals clearly are targeting anything and everything they can.

This after security officers at a telephone tower facility in Ten Acres were robbed at around 10am on Tuesday 10 November.

“It is alleged by the 29-year-old complainant they were on duty when suddenly they were overpowered by three unknown men.

One of the men was armed with a firearm. The security officers were tied up and the suspects removed batteries from the power room of the tower. The suspects allegedly also took personal belongings such as cellphones from the officers and fled the scene,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Bongani Mpete can be contacted with any information that might assist in the investigation. His contact number is 011 278 8100.

The South African Police Service calls on the help of the community members to assist them with information. Anyone with information can contact the Crime Stop number – 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line – 32211 to report crime anonymously.
