Armed robbers storm furniture store

Regional Manager: All the staff are traumatised.

Two customers and an unknown number of staff had to stand and watch in horror as six armed suspects targeted the OK Furniture store situated in Main Reef Road in the Randfontein CBD on Monday.

Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police confirmed the armed robbery took place at around 11.45am.

“It is alleged by the 44-year-old victim that he was surprised by six men that entered his office in the store while three of the men were wielding firearms.

The staff and customers were forced to lay on the floor. The suspects demanded electronic equipment and cellphones.

“They also gained access to the safe where they removed cash. It is further alleged that the suspects fled the scene and might have jumped into a white Volkswagen Polo. There were no shots fired during the incident and no serious injuries were sustained by any of the victims,” said Ernst.

Sakkie Pretorius, Regional Manager of the store explained to the Herald there were two customers and staff in the store when the armed robbery occurred.

He said the staff told him everything happened in about five minutes. He said the manager of the store was treated with much aggression and that all the staff are traumatised.

Residents must be on the look out, they robbed the same store in Westonaria about three weeks ago. They dress like businessmen and you will never think of them as criminals if you see them.”

The case is investigated by Randfontein Detectives and they can be reached on 011 278 8100. Any information that might assist in the investigation will be highly appreciated.
