Man, 25, caught in the act for gate motor theft

Lately numerous instances have been reported where electric gate motors have being stolen.

A 25-year-old man faces two charges, one of trespassing and the other of damage to property after he was found tampering with an electric gate motor at around 9.30pm last Tuesday.

“It is alleged the owner was alerted that someone was trespassing on his premises. He investigated and found the suspect on his premises, busy tampering with the gate motor.

He confronted the suspect, who then ran away. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident,”said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.

Lately numerous instances have been reported where electric gate motors have being stolen. The quick reaction of the owner which ensured the arrest of the suspect is applauded.

The suspect appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates court last Thursday but the case was postponed to Monday. The outcome is not yet known to the Herald.
