Fallen soldiers honoured with parade

'At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.'

Caprivi Bomgat’s Memorable Order of Tin Hats (M.O.T.H) Club held their Remembrance Day Parade at the Randfontein Cenotaph this past weekend.

Training Officer of the Moth, Gary Venton, put together a beautiful Parade of Remembrance, where several Moth members took part in the wreath laying ceremony.

This Ceremony was held in the honour of soldiers that died in die First World War in 1914.

The guests were welcomed by Moth James Coulsen and Reverend Cathy Lee from St John The Divine Anglican Church led in prayer.

West Rand District Old Bill, Moth Jan du Bryun called the parade to attention, the public to stand and the Moth salute. Flags were lowered half mast and two minutes of silence followed.

Moth Jan du Bryun then read the Moth Prayer:

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.’

The Glen Allen pipe band also formed part of the ceremony, where the beautiful sounds of Scottish music filled the air.

The 1st Discovery Scouts, EPR Randfontein and Caprivi Bomgat Randfontein all formed part of the parade. Some of the attendees were Jimmy Pappas and family from Uncle Harry’s Roadhouse, who also helped sponsor this day.

Major Elwin Langenloven, Moth Dave Gush, Moth Stuart Howie, the Moth Motorcycle Association (Warriors), Colonel Dirk Brytenback and Bongani Nkambule, PA Executive Manager of Infrastructure was also present, just to mention a few. After the parade everybody enjoyed the most delicious snacks and drinks.
