Man lucky to be alive after head-on crash

ER24: Driver of bakkie was on his way to deliver medical supplies.

A man is lucky to be alive after his bakkie and an articulated truck collided head-on with each other on the N12 outside of Carletonville on Thursday.

Paramedics that arrived on the scene found debris scattered across the highway. The 28-year-old man was found on the scene with only moderate injuries, despite the severe mechanism of the collision.

The driver of the truck explained he noticed the bakkie swerving across the lanes and tried to move out of the way. Unfortunately, he was not able to move away in time and the vehicle collided into the front of the truck. The truck driver was not injured in the collision.

It is believed the injured driver of the bakkie was on his way to deliver medical supplies in the North-West when the collision occurred. He was transported to Carletonville Hospital for further treatment,” said Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson.
