Father of three run over and killed

Motorist runs over pedestrian in horror crash.

A father of three died tragically following a horror pedestrian accident on Lazaar Avenue in Homelake on Sunday 25 October. The accident happened at approximately 12.30am.

It is believed JL Boshoff, 36, was walking home after he had spent the evening gambling at a nearby casino.

As he was about to cross a busy road near a petrol station, a motorist allegedly skipped the stop street and hit Boshoff. The impact was so severe that he was flung into the air, bounced off the road and landed about three metres from the vehicle.

An officer from a security company who witnessed the whole incident ran to Boshoff and found him in a very bad state, but was able to tell him his name faintly.

Just before 1am the officer contacted Chanel Joubert, 29, Boshoff’s fiancée of 12 years, and she was brought to the scene.

Police, emergency services and paramedics were already there. The damage to the vehicle reflected the impact where Boshoff was hit.

Joubert said just by looking at her fiancé she could see he was injured gravely. He had broken both his legs, his left hip and his left arm. He sustained severe injuries to his eye and face, and in the back of his head was a hole larger than a tennis ball.

An ambulance took him and Joubert to Leratong Hospital. She spoke to him in the ambulance and asked him to be strong.

However, at approximately 2.55am Boshoff succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind fiancée, their three children aged two, six and eight, as well as his mother, sister and brother.

A doctor at the hospital had told Joubert her fiancé also bled internally, suffered brain death and subsequently his heart failed.

Joubert and a friend described Boshoff as a loving, helpful, friendly and forgiving person with an extremely good heart. The elderly women in their complex spent Sunday with Chanel, crying over the man who always helped them.

Although the matter is still to be investigated the adult driver of the vehicle responsible for Boshoff’s death allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol while watching rugby earlier that evening.

Allegations surfaced about police wanting to arrest the driver at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence and wreckless driving, but it did not happen. It has not been confirmed by either traffic police or police.

Joubert said she contacted the driver’s wife, asking for assistance, but she allegedly responded that her husband would need counselling, that they also have two children and she has vehicle repairs to pay for.

The Randfontein Police is yet to comment on this incident.
