Victim robbed by acquaintances

Police: One pointed a firearm at him and the others started to search him.

Police arrested two men who pointed a firearm at a man and robbed him of his belongings.

Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed the incident that occurred at approximately 8pm on Saturday 10 October while the victim and a friend were walking in the street.

“It is alleged they were confronted by four men – two known to the victim.

“Three of the suspects approached him and one went to his friend. The one unknown to him pointed a firearm at him and the other started to search him.

They took his cellphone and the bag he was carrying and fled. The victim then reported the matter to the police and the two were arrested. They appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court and their case was postponed until 19 October pending further investigation.

“We are appealing to the community to refrain from walking along open spaces around Simunye specifically during the night as you might fall prey to criminals. Maybe try walking in large groups as they will be able to defend themselves.”
