Municipality goes Oprah with wheelie-bins

You get a wheelie-bin and you get a wheelie-bin ...

The municipality’s recent mass roll-out of wheelie bins in Randgate and Randpoort can be described to when the famous Oprah Winfrey hands out gifts to her audience.

In this case, the saying goes: You get a wheelie bin, you get a wheelie bin! Every one gets a wheelie bin!

You get a wheelie bin!

The mass wheelie bin handover took place on Saturday (10 October) where the Randfontein Local Municipality set up two points where residents could collect their brand new wheelie bins.

The handover is part of the Randfontein Local Municipality’s programme to modernise and standardise refuse removal in town.

The previous areas that have received wheelie bins were Eike Park, Helikon Park and Culemborg Park. These areas are in DA councillor Craig Harrison’s Ward 7. This time around it was DA councillor, Sina Erasmus of Ward 4 who had the pleasure of her Ward receiving an update.

Residents paid R200 once-off for the bins, which the municipality subsidises by 50 per cent. The municipality ensures the current refuse removal schedule will not change as a result of the new bins.

According to DA ward councillor for ward 3, Alwyn van Tonder,

I was quite impressed with the municipality as everything was setup before 9am on the day. The Randpoort distribution site already had their wheelie bins before 9am. I visited the Randgate Hall where Cllr. Peter Dick was stationed and found that everything was going smoothly. It was well organised.

“MMC of environment Theresa Kimane and MMC of finance Tina Grobler also visited both sites. I want to thank all the employees of the municipality who assisted in distributing the wheelie bins. I believe the wheelie bins will also assist to keep our streets cleaner as dogs won’t be able to tear apart the plastic bags exposing the garbage for the wind to blow around.”
