Mother, son escapes death after car slams into wall

'If it was not for the vehicle's airbags, this accident would have been fatal.'

A mother and son narrowly escaped death when the vehicle they were travelling in smashed into a wall at a nursery over the weekend.

According to Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 4 reaction officer, William Knight, the occupants of the vehicle definitely had their guardian angels by their side when the accident occurred on Saturday at approximately 7pm.

They were travelling from the direction of the Randfontein Oval Track on Lazaar Avenue when they allegedly swerved out of the way of an oncoming vehicle.”

Knight continued, “They then hit a man hole and although the man hole was fixed, it still was not in line with the road. The car spun around 180 degrees and this forced them off the road and into the nursery’s wall. An EPR reaction officer was first on scene and came to their assist. When I arrived, I helped him to stabilise the occupants.

“Charl Jager, also from CPF Sector 4 also came onto the scene and assisted us and helped regulate traffic. The Emergency Services was notified and the patients were taken to Leratong Hospital as they did not have a medical aid.”

The occupants are believed to be a man in his mid 20s and his mother in her mid 40s. She was driving the vehicle.

He sustained minor head and knee injuries while his mother complained of stomach ache only.

If it was not for the vehicle’s airbags, this accident would have been fatal.”
