Just in: Angry woman torches family’s house

'I am going to burn your house with your family in it.'

A family feud in Toekomsrus went horribly wrong after a sibling allegedly set her sister’s house on fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to the sibling whose house in Pynappel Street was set alight, Moeder Remrock, “My husband, my three children and I were in the house when my sister arrived with the police to hand me a protection order.”

Remrock says her sister and herself has had a lot of arguments in the last few months. While she was there, she told Remrock she will burn her house down with the family in it. This she allegedly said right in front of the police officer.

Police then left and the family went to the neighbours in fear she will return. At about 11.30pm on Monday they felt safe enough to return home to go rest.

Remrock’s husband was still busy watching television when he heard a noise at their front door. The next moment he heard a brick being thrown through the living room window. The next thing they saw were flames coming from underneath the door.

Part of the house destroyed by the fire.

The family could not leave the house through the front or back door and eventually managed to escape through the bedroom window. The sister that burnt the house then left on foot.

Remrock added her sister threw petroleum on the door and after she threw the brick through the window, she threw the rest of it in the living room. Remrock’s husband sustained injuries to his nose and ear and when the Herald arrived on scene, he was too upset and emotional to speak.

After the incident Remrock claims her husband contacted the police. Remrock’s sister is in the hospital after she herself sustained burn wounds. The police was there at their house again on Wednesday 14 October to take statements from them.

There is huge damage in the living room and in the kitchen even the microwave was busy melting.

The Randfontein Police is yet to comment on the matter.
