Date set for final drag racing showdown of 2015

'Race enthusiasts can prepare themselves for an explosive day.'

Sunday, 25 October will see the Final SA National Drag Racing championship round unfold while competitors battle it out for those last crucial points gain.

Race enthusiasts can prepare themselves for an explosive day of action packed racing as we end the 2015 racing season with Round 6 at Tarlton International Raceway.

Dragside spectators will be guaranteed some awesome racing action with competition runs amongst some of the fastest Drag car competitors in South Africa as the Top Eliminator Category showcases drivers like the A-Class Dragster pilots, Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel (Whiplash) along with the Top Alcohol Funny Car Pilot, Nico van Rensburg (Lethal Weapon) while they devour the asphalt with some spectacular racing on the Day.

These Top Eliminator beasts are known for posting monstrous times of 6 to 7 seconds at over 300 km/h over the quarter mile.

Bringing everything to the fight will be Gavin Wilkins (SpeedNSound/SpeedPro/SKF Mustang) to rack up some championship points lead over the rest of the “SKF” Senior Eliminator arsenal.

Fighting to keep the championship points lead will be multiple SA National Champion, Nico van Rensburg in his Supercharged Ford Thunderbird.

Joining the force on the day will be Hannes Minnaar with the Twin Turbo 2JZ Corolla, Pieter Lombard with the (Racing Boys) Rotary powered Turbo Rustler and Sybie Coetzee with his “Nitro Performance” Turbocharged Nitrous fed Datsun.

Topping the Super Competition Leader boards are the Slooten brothers, Simon with his Didge challenger holding top spot with 151 points and Mark Slooten in his Chev Camaro on his tail with 145 points. Piloting the 8.5 litre Fuel Injected Corvette “Forever Young”, will see Louwtjie van den Berg ready to get some championship changing points in 3rd spot. 78 Year old Reg Murray in his D-Dragster, Jan Lubbe in the Chev Can Am and Fanus Pieters (Opel Manta) will be following in close pursuit.

Turning up the heat to gain some points lead in the Competition Eliminator will be Dennis van Loggenberg (Can Am), Michelle Taylor (Celica) and Riaan Esterhuysen (Honda Civic). Hot on the leader’s tails will be drivers such as, Andre de Beer (Datsun), Wouter Havenga (Ford) and Andries van der walt (Camaro) along with many more.

Street Eliminator will have two brackets racing on the day, Super Street with a race bracket of 11.00 to 14.00 seconds will see drivers such as Ugan Naidoo (VW Golf), Henk Bannink (VW), Elise Havenga (BMW) and Andries Naude (Lumina) while in Modified street, which have a race bracket of 13.50 to 17.00 seconds, will see lady racers like, Ester Cloete (VW Golf) and Nasjki van den Berg (BMW) fight it out along the male drivers such as Francois Weydeman (VW Golf), JP Van den Berg and Hannes van der Walt to name but a few.

Biker fans will also be spoilt with most of the country’s quickest and fastest street and drag bikes with riders like Jerry Lombard (Suzuki), Zafar Hoosen (Suzuki), Shaun and Bertus Breedt (Suzuki’s) will offer stiff competition in the SS-Bikes Class while in the SB-Bikes class, Peter de la Rey (BMW S1000RR), Jesaja Lombard (Suzuki), Peet Viviers (Suzuki) and Leonard Roberts (Suzuki) will battle it out amongst the bikers field to gain maximum points for the day.

Topping off the day will be exhibition runs by Nico van Rensburg in the Famous, Tarlton J34 Westinghouse Jet Dragster. This beast of a machine is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 400 km/h over a quarter mile which you cannot afford to miss.

Joining in the Exhibition fun will be Marius Coetzee in the Leyland Matador, 12litre Twin Turbo V8 Drag Truck along with Deon Swanepoel in the Turbocharged Ford Cargo V8 Drag Truck.

Tickets are on sale at Tarlton’s main gate on the day at R110 for adults and R50 for kids (ages 6 to 12) Tarlton offers plenty of free parking and take-away food and refreshments available at the venue.

The gates will open at 7am and racing is set to start at around 8am. Should the event rain out, it will be re-scheduled for Sunday, 1 November 2015.
