On Sunday 11 October and what was a hot summer’s morning, Janette Muller of the Randfontein and Westonaria SPCA joined residents with their dogs on a walk to create animal cruelty awareness.
This exciting initiative also was held to raise funds for the SPCA. Their was also a raffle ticket and free grooming for a dog once-a-month for a year at Spiffs Grooming Parlour up for grabs.
Craig Harisson, DA Councillor for Ward 7 and Joy Hamann from the Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA) also joined in this good cause for our furry friends.
The group braved the heat from the Randfontein SPCA to the San Pedro Spur. There was about 80 dog owners present and a variety of dogs proudly walked the streets of Randfontein. Spiffs Grooming Parlour, who sponsored one of the prizes, looked bright and energetic in their orange shirts. Some of the dogs, just to name a few was Labradors, German Sheppards, Boerboels and Basset Hounds and they enjoyed the exercise and fresh air with their owners.
The Randfontein Traffic Department also did their part and made sure everybody was safe, while motorists that drove past, smiled and waved at the owners and dogs.
The SPCA is also trying to raise funds for a much needed vehicle and Janette Muller said,
We are very pleased with the response and support we got from the residents of Randfontein.”
