CPF promotes parental guidance

CPF Sector 4: I hope it will be implemented soon.

Keeping children safe on the internet and dealing with the shock of the latest crime statistics were two hot topics discussed at a recent Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 4 meeting.

Willem Steyn from Mangofusion, was one of the guest speakers and he introduced a new system where parents can not only block content that is harmful to our youth but, be alerted as soon as the child tries to go onto that particular site.

He also educated residents on crimes related to the internet – this proved to be very interesting and helpful in a time where children have full access to the internet.

This is truly a ground breaking programme and I hope it will be implemented soon,” said Nattilly van der Westhuizen from the CPF Sector 4.

Janette Muller of the SPCA Randfontein and Westonaria also was present and mentioned there is a new way robbers get rid of barking dogs. They use a type of thorn of a tree which is poisonous and comes from Botswana. They then place the thorn in a blue gun and shoot the dog – the dog basically gets tranquilized and lays down.

Captain Nicky van der Westhuizen from the Randfontein Police presented residents with the crime statistics released last month.
