Karatekas show talent in Mpumalanga

Sensei: I am proud of all of my students and their accomplishments in the art of karate

Karatekas from the Westonaria Sports Complex exceeded expectations in Mpumalanga last month bringing home 10 medals and four trophies.

The fighters participated in the All Styles Karate Champions Challenge at the Ridge Casino Entertainment Resort.

The tournament had fighters from the North West, Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces.

The fighters are now preparing for the regional championships which is due later this year. I am confident they will make the West Rand regional squad and proud of all of my students and their accomplishments in the art of karate,” Sensei Kruben Pillay said.

The group trains regularly in the Westonaria Sports Complex on Tuesday and Thursday from 4.45pm to 5.45pm.

 The medal and trophy winners are:

• Ntando Shelembe – one gold and one bronze

• Jade King – two gold, one bronze and a trophy

• Mari Mare – double bronze

• Ntokozo Shelembe – double gold and a trophy

• Samantha Mare – one gold, one silver and a trophy

• Laikin Barnard – one gold, one bronze and a trophy
