Netcare 911 the ultimate warriors

'Not only does this day allow emergency personnel to relax, it also promotes team building.'

Paramedics from across the West Rand recently participated in the Life Robinson Private Hospital’s annual Robinson Cup.

It was one Friday in September that these unsung heroes traded their lifesaving skills to be warriors for a day and braved the cold weather to compete.

Emergency Services who participated include Netcare 911, Quick Response Service, ER24, Life Flora Clinic’s life support unit and Life Robinson Private Hospital’s accident and emergency unit.

Life Robinson Private Hospital started the Robinson Cup in 2014. It is our way of saying thank you to these unsung heroes who are responsible for saving so many lives on a daily basis,” said Belinda de Meyer, Administration and Finance manager at Life Robinson Hospital.

The theme for 2015 was Warrior Games.

The different teams participated in a number of activities against each other, to crown the annual overall winner. Each team member got the opportunity to show off their warrior skills at Camp Nelu in Hekpoort in archery, riflery, an obstacle course and a mission impossible exercise.

De Meyer continued,

Not only does this day allow the emergency medical services personnel to relax and have fun, it also promotes team building between the different services and team work with colleagues.”

During the mission impossible exercise each team received a rope, a hook and a pole which had to be used, together with a fixed structure. The object was to get the team from one end to the other without any of the items, or the team members, touching the ground.

After completion of the activities and a hot well deserved shower to clean off the mud from the obstacle course, the warriors were treated to a braai for lunch. During lunch the annual Robinson Cup 2015 victors were announced.

Netcare 911 walked away as the Warrior Games 2015 winners continuing their reign as undefeated champions from the Paintball Cup hosted in 2014.

• Netcare 911 winning team: Martin van Staden, Jeany Blignaut, Dave Barry and Bongani Keka.

• Nominated as the team with the most spirit: Robinson Private Hospital’s accident and emergency unit
