Football academy furious at municipality

Municipality leaves soccer tournament high and dry. No running water one of the issues.

Management of Toekomsrus United Sports Academy voiced their dissatisfaction and disgust at the Randfontein Local Municipality owing to the lack of services at a soccer tournament held on Heritage Day.

Chairperson of the academy, Gerald Samson wrote in a letter to the Director of Social Services at the Randfontein Municipality saying, “The duty of the council is to provide resources to stakeholders and communities at large. It is with dismay that I write this letter in regards to what happened on Thursday 24 September when we hosted a soccer tournament for Junior boys from Randfontein.

Despite a prior booking of five months for usage of the Toekomsrus Stadium and the unfortunate incidents of robberies that took place no efforts were made to assist.”

They hereby feel that the unprofessional conduct should be investigated and feedback should be provided.

Other issues raised by Samson were:

• No lines were drawn on the field. The person in charge of this was there at 7.30 am but not all the necessary equipment was available so he went to Mohlakeng to fetch equipment but never returned. His phone was also switched off;

• There was no alternative arrangements made for toilet facilities;

• There was no running water – this problem has been reported for the last three years and it has never been attended to;

• As per telephonic conversation with a councillor, an indication was given that assistance would be rendered on the day, but they did nothing to help that day.

We as management feel that the responsible people be sensitized about the consequences of non-compliance of their duties. This sort of behavior should never be condoned. The matter must be investigated and be dealt with accordingly.”

The Toekomsrus United Sports Academy expect feedback within seven working days.
