How did Frikkie die?

If he was not hit by this vehicle, how did he die? – friend.

The circumstances surrounding Frikkie Bodenstein’s death continues to baffle his family and friends.

The Herald previously reported that Bodenstein, 50, who was believed to be missing for three months was found dead in Carletonville.

Juliana Welgemoed, his partner for the last 18 years as well as Ben James and Chantelle Oberholster told the Herald about there concerns regarding Bodenstein’s death.

Welgemoed last saw Bodenstein on Saturday 23 May where he told her he was going to go watch rugby with his family. After that Oberholster’s husband told Bodenstein that he can come sleep over at his house. He left and thought that Bodenstein followed him. He never saw Bodenstein alive again.

According to Welgemoed they suspect that Bodenstein planned to go to his brother’s house.

The man that found Bodenstein told his version of the story.

I was on my way to work, my wife was with me and it was more or less 3.30am in the morning. In the road ahead of me I saw a car parked in the middle of the road. When I got closer, I saw a man lying in the road. I then decided to try and drive around his body and with this, I bumped into his car.”

Initial reports claim this man bumped Bodenstein – the cause of his death – but the man denied this and stuck by his version of events.

Oberholster said, “I saw this man’s vehicle. It has a huge dent on top of his bonnet. There was even stains and I am positive that it was blood. How do you get a dent on top of your bonnet if he states that he drove into Bodenstein’s vehicle?”

She continued, “Bodenstein had a very bad wound on his forehead which eventually led to his death. It makes sense to me that he was hit by the vehicle and then hit his head on the bonnet of the vehicle.”

Ben James, his friend said, “If he was not hit by this vehicle, how did he die? Why would he stop on that dangerous road that hour of the morning and get out of his car ?”

Oberholster and Welgemoed reported Bodenstein missing on 1 June. On 14 August Welgemoed got the news that Bodenstein was found in a Carletonville mortuary. He has been lying there for three months where police failed to inform his relatives. They had Bodenstein’s car keys, his medical aid and mine card.

They made no effort to find his family. They didn’t even use the registration number to track us down,” Welgemoed said.

The vehicle Bodenstein travelled in was Welgemoed’s.

She claims after the accident a tow trucking company took the car and sold it. They allegedly made no effort to try and find the owner.

She added, “They had no right to sell my vehicle.” Another mystery is that Bodenstein’s gold in his teeth was removed. His teeth was pulled out in order to get the gold. If this happened at the mortuary or on the scene of the accident remains unanswered. Bodenstein’s wallet and phone was also missing.

On 21 August Bodenstein was cremated. His family has now opened a case and will soon meet with the Carletonville police.
