Man stabbed to death following argument

The victim went to his friend’s house, where he collapsed and died – police.

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old man in the Siyahlala Informal Settlement.

Randfontein Police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst confirmed the incident occurred at about 1.10am on Sunday 20 September.

“When the police arrived they found the body of the deceased with a stab wound in his upper body. He was declared dead by paramedics on the scene. It is alleged the victim and a Xhosa speaking man was having a fight regarding rumours being spread.

The victim and the suspect allegedly started assaulting each other, when the suspect produced a sharp instrument and stabbed the victim. The victim went to his friend’s house, where he collapsed and died.”

Inquiries were made in the area, but the suspect could not be traced. The next morning members from the Siyahlala Informal Settlement tracked the suspect and handed him over to the police officers. The 24-year-old suspect was charged and his first appearance was on 25 September in the Randfontein Magistrates court.

The case was remanded to 7 October. The Randfontein Police applauds the community for their efforts in tracking the suspect and then handing the suspect over to face the consequences of his action. The investigating officer in this case is Warrant officer Bongani Mpete.
