Gate motor thieves run out of luck

The men could not give a reasonable explanation – Police.

Two men in their 20s have been arrested for being in possession of stolen property that of an electric gate motor the Randfontein Police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 3.15am on Friday, 25 September. The two suspects are aged 24 and 26 respectively.

“Warrant Officer Chris de Beer and his team were doing routine patrols in Greenhills when they spotted two men carrying something. When the police officers stopped to search the men, one of them made a dash for it. One of them threw the thing he was carrying down during his flight from the police,” Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police said.

She continued, 

Police officers then gave chase and found the thing the man threw down was an electric gate motor. The men could not give a reasonable explanation of how they acquired the gate motor. The officers made the necessary inquiries and found that a gate motor was stolen earlier the same evening.”

The two suspects appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 28 September).
