VIDEO: Another pupil assaulted by teacher

'We’re in absolute shock' — GDE.

After the Herald reported on a pupil from Randfontein Secondary School getting assaulted by a teacher last week, a second incident was caught on video a few days later.

Eyewitness News is in possession of yet another video of a teacher hitting a teenager at the school in Toekomsrus. It’s alleged the pupil was hit for not completing his school work. In the latest video, a teacher is shown hitting the Grade nine pupil with a leather belt in front of other pupils.

EWN showed the footage to the Gauteng Department of Education’s (GDE) spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane, who says,

We’re in absolute shock, that is just completely unbelievable.”

In the last incident, a teacher who was filmed beating a pupil at the same school is due to appear before a disciplinary panel at the GDE on Friday. The male teacher was beating a grade nine pupil in front of his classmates. The department says it will be going back to the Randfontein Secondary School to investigate allegations of corporal punishment.

Sekhonyane says the teacher implicated has to account for his actions.

She says,

We will be going back to the school. Hopefully he will also help us with the video, because it will help us in the investigation. We will get the responsible educator to account and give us reasons why we should not take him through a disciplinary process.”

Principal of the school, Winston Morris said he was not allowed to comment on the matter.
