SA women’s javelin champ rakes in another medal

‘Being a world medalist is very special’ – Athlete.

Sunette Viljoen, South African javelin champ claimed her claimed her eighth medal and fourth bronze for the sport on Sunday.

This medal is from the IAAF World Championships in Beijing. Viljoen went into the championships with a world-leading distance of 66.62m.

Her competition was Kathrina Molitor, a German who claimed the gold and China’s Huihui Lyu who claimed the silver.

To win any colour is special, being a world champion means more but being a world medalist is very special,” Viljoen said.

This would be Viljoen’s third time being a world medalist. She has won two bronze medals previously. She has also received two Continental Cup silver medals and two gold medals and a bronze in the Commonwealth Games.

Subsequently, Viljoen is one of South Africa’s most decorated athletes.
