Local runners put W’aria on map

One gold, two silver, and two bronze for W'aria runners.

Boabab Athletics club hosted a 2,5km and 5km race in partnership with Pick ‘n Pay.

The Pick ‘n Pay Central Gauteng Athletics race was held at the newly-opened Simunye Gymnasium. It was a race for U/11 and U/15 boys and girls.

A local school, Izanokhanyo Primary School, fared well in the race. Dipuo Seane won the girls U/11 race in a stylish fashion and was followed by Kgalalelo Kobohla and Angelina Motsheng in third place.

In the boys U/11, Njabulo Hlatswayo from Obuhle Athletics Club in Ekurhuleni dominated and he was followed by his teammate, Ngcebo Khoza. Thabang Mogaba from Izanokhanyo managed to secure a close third place on the local front.

In the U/15 5km girls race, the host club’s Nandipha Twala came second to Neo Makgetla from Kagiso Nedbank and third place was taken by a Resego Tlhapi from Kopano Roots athletics club. Another local runner, Omphile Twala, ran the best she could and managed to secure Westonaria a fifth position in the race.

Ekurhuleni dominated in the boys U/15 5km race. Mzwakhe Mashaba took the gold while Siyabonga Mokhothu and Nicholas Seopaseng took second and third respectively.

In their race, Mashaba shot off from the winning group and ran to victory in the last 500 metres of the race – Mokhothu and Seopaseng couldn’t catch up with his speed.

Westonaria runners managed to place in the top five six times in all age groups with one gold, two silver, two bronze and one fifth place.
